Abstract

Metadata has typically been used for deductive reasoning – applications take advantage of its precision to renderobjective conclusions about annotated sources that are 100% reliable. Metadata annotations could also be used inductively, however, toallow systems to reason about the similarities that individual users perceive among instances. We explore how this notion could be of benefit to an information exploration agent.
